Kiera found herself stuck in a rut, feeling drained and uninspired. The charm of New York City that once captivated her was fading, and she realized it was time for a significant change. But where should she go? Seeking guidance, Kiera consulted relocation specialist Amber Edwards, who offered expert advice on moving abroad, helping her navigate everything from where to live to what to pack for diverse climates. Amber’s insights proved invaluable for anyone dreaming of becoming an expat.

Determined to revitalize her spirit, Kiera set off on her journey, ready to embrace the unknown with an open heart.

The Leap to Mexico City

Kiera’s adventure began in Mexico City. The flight was filled with nerves and excitement, as she captured each thought in her journal, documenting every feeling of anticipation as she embarked on this solo venture. Upon arriving in Mexico City, her first culinary stop was Taqueria Gabriel, where she indulged in tacos that were bursting with flavor. The lively atmosphere and delectable food gave her the perfect start to her journey.

Staying at a luxury aparthotel in Juarez, Kiera appreciated the unique mix of energy and tranquility that defined the city. With a population of over 22 million, she was surprised to find that it didn't feel crowded. She also noted how quickly she adapted to her new surroundings.

Exploring Mexico

Kiera spent an exhilarating two months in Mexico, deep diving into the local culture while visiting stunning locations like San Miguel, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum. In San Miguel, she roamed the cobbled streets, admiring vibrant murals and art galleries. In Playa del Carmen, she relished the warm sand and crystal-clear waters, while the nightlife buzzed with energy. Tulum enchanted her with beautiful sites that overlooked the breathtaking Caribbean Sea, making it the perfect spot for reflection.

With each destination, Kiera felt revitalized, inspired by the beauty and richness of the Mexican landscape.

A Quick Stop in London

Following her time in Mexico, Kiera touched down in London for a two-week exploration in June. The city's fast-paced rhythm was a stark shift, but she embraced the change wholeheartedly. Kiera visited iconic sites and spent time enjoying classic fish and chips and sipping on tea during her breaks. She enjoyed the diverse atmosphere, where history merged seamlessly with modern culture, igniting her passion for travel even more. She set her sights on returning to London for Carnival once she was done with the rest of her European escape.

The Romance of Paris

Next, Kiera ventured to Paris, a city she had often dreamt about. With every croissant she enjoyed, she felt as if she were living in a movie, surrounded by love and charm. One afternoon, she formed an unexpected bond with a young girl who sought shelter from unwelcome attention. The two connected instantly and spent five hours passing the time together, sharing laughter and stories. Through this moment, Kiera learned that travel is often defined by the people you meet along the way, not just the destinations.

Italian Escapades

After Paris, Kiera headed to Italy, starting in Venice, where she found herself captivated by the city's famous canals. She stayed in an aparthotel and used her free time to unwind while taking in the breathtaking views of historic architecture. On a guided tour, she met another traveler, a black American woman, who became a friend with whom she would later explore Rome together.

A Roman Adventure

Kiera's journey in Rome kicked off with her Roman experience, a visit to the iconic Colosseum. Standing inside this ancient arena, Kiera marveled at its grandeur, imagining the gladiatorial battles that took place there. Fun fact, the Colosseum is known to hold over 50,000 spectators.

Later, she would be joined by her new friend, with whom she shared a delicious dinner at a cozy trattoria. Savoring classic Italian dishes, followed by a further exploration of Rome on a scooter. Kiera faced her fear by attempting to drive a motor scooter for the first time. After parting with her friend, she decided to drive the scooter home. What was supposed to be a quick 20-minute ride turned into an hour-long adventure as she found herself lost in the charming, winding streets of Rome. Despite the unexpected detour, she made it back to her homestay safely, proving that sometimes the best parts of travel come from unexpected experiences.

The Amalfi Coast Experience

Next up was the breathtaking Amalfi Coast. Kiera set out on a train to Salerno, but due to unexpected delays, she missed her initial boat to Positano. Determined to make her trip memorable, she caught the next boat to Positano. Kiera’s Italian adventure continued along the breathtaking Amalfi Coast. Here, she spent a day basking in the sun and exploring the picturesque coastal town of Positano. Delighting in the stunning views. She then made her way to Chez Black, a famous waterfront restaurant known for its fresh seafood. She feasted on delectable seafood Pasta and Italian wine.

Barcelona Brunch Tour

Kiera's adventure continued as she flew to Barcelona. One of her first destinations was the renowned Parque Güell, an iconic park designed by Antoni Gaudí. Getting there involved a few bus rides and some tricky ticketing challenges, but Kiera's patience paid off. The vibrant mosaics and playful architecture captivated her, making her feel like she had stepped into a fairy tale.

During her stay, Kiera explored the thriving brunch scene in Barcelona. At Empanar and Cocktails, she indulged in a mix of savory and sweet empanadas, which she rated 10 out of 10. The city felt like a perfect blend of urban energy and beach serenity, making it a highlight of her journey.

Lisbon's Artistic Charm

Kiera's next stop was Lisbon, where she checked into the trendy Mama Shelter hotel in Santo António. Here, she struck up a conversation with another American traveler from New York. They connected over their shared love for travel and indulged in rich conversations at a cultural event called "Black in Portugal," which offered insights into Lisbon's diverse history.

In Lisbon, Kiera quickly developed a fondness for the local delicacy, Pastel De Nata. These custard tarts were a daily treat. A highlight of her trip was a sunrise boat tour complete with breakfast, where she admired the stunning city skyline. Dinner at Rocko’s that evening was the icing on the cake. With an ambiance that just felt right and delightful meals, it was a fitting finale to her time in Lisbon.

Return to London

As Kiera returned to London for the final leg of her trip, she took a moment to reflect on her incredible journey. Each city, every encounter, and each culinary delight contributed to her personal growth and newfound happiness. She made it back in time for the London Carnival. Filled with diverse culture, music, and fun, Kiera could not ask for a better way to wrap her European leg of the trip. Traveling alone had transformed her, allowing her to step out beyond her comfort zone and embrace life’s possibilities. Kiera discovered that life is a wonderful journey, often requiring just a leap of faith to reignite that passion for living.

Traveling through Europe is a dream for many, and Kiera's adventure was nothing short of spectacular. Picture this: the ancient ruins of Rome, the vibrant streets of Barcelona, and the artistic charm of Lisbon. Her journey was packed with unforgettable experiences, new friendships, and a few unexpected twists along the way. But she wasn't done yet. Kiera had her sights set next on South America.
